In fairness to at least one of my nephews, he thought that the daily text was about humility to those "carrying the heavy load". He got offended for my suggesting that the text was likely about preemptively making the elders swallow the new light and my adding that most JW's won't even care or notice the new light.

i then had the audacity to send a text message to all four jw's nephews/nieces (in their mid 20's).
i offered my opinion by summarizing it "put and shut up".

Depressing Census Statistics on Religion

this is taken every 5 years, and i have been doing a comparison over the last 15 year period.
for 2001 and 2006 the number of jw's fell in australia, but this time it has risen, which jws may find encouraging.

Julia, you are right, and I must add that "no religion" must include even christians who prefer not to be affiliated to any denomination. I believe that was the case of the existentialist philosopher Kierkegaard.
I read in another post that you like history. You may be interested in a book by Carl Olof Jonsson that connects history to JW's flawed doctrines of doom. Remember the signs: earthquakes, famine, wars, plagues. He deals with that issue just as well he did in "the Gentile Times Reconsidered" The book "The Signs of the Last Days, When" is hard to find, but I got my copy from a library in California.

Here's the daily text that started it all:
Jehovah will make known who belongs to him.-Num. 16:5. Korah lost sight of the fact that Jehovah was directing the nation of Israel and consequently failed to show loyalty to those whom God was using. How much wiser it would have been for Korah to wait on Jehovah for a clearer understanding or for adjustments if those were really needed. So in the end, Korah destroyed his record of faithful service by his prideful actions! (Num. 16:1-34) That account provides a serious warning for elders and others in the congregation today. Waiting on Jehovah and following directions from those appointed to take the lead requires humility. Do we show that we are as humble and mild-tempered as Moses was? Can we acknowledge the position of those taking the lead among us and submit to directions we receive? Are we able to rise above our personal feelings when faced with disappointments? If so, we too will be known favorably by Jehovah. Our humility and submission will endear us to him. w11 9/15 5:12, 15, 16

Last Thursday I was propmpted by a recent thread to read the Daily Text (Feb 28, 2013). I then had the audacity to send a text message to all four JW's nephews/nieces (in their mid 20's). I offered my opinion by summarizing it "Put and Shut up". Later, quite spontaneously, I suggested in another text that the daily text must be a preemptive notice to elders that may be troubled by the "new light" revealed in the last annual meeting (the one about FDS). To make a long story short these are some of the answers I got:
Niece (28 y.o) Nothing, she knows that I am a de facto "apostate".
Nephew 1 (26 y.o.) "I am not being reacting [sic] over defensively. Just giving you some advice as well. "Apostates" would be slightly more successful if they change their methods. They all seem so angry and unpleasant people to be with or listen to"
Nephew 2 (24 y.o.) " If I am happily living my life in a way that is healthy and good...Please don't text me regarding these things. I am not offended. I am just puzzled as to why my own relative would try to rob me of my bliss..."
Nephew 3 (23 y.o.) "I respect your point of views uncle, but any info you got coming from who knows where wont change what I believe in and I don't want to hear about it, again, with all due respect"
The answer that strikes me as unexpected is Nephew 2. It's like revealing to a child that Santa Claus is not real. The difference is that the child is, well, a child, and my nephew is 24 years old. I interpret his answer as "let me continue to believe in Santa because it makes me happy" Yeap. It's sad, but they are like children.

- today being just over 40 years since the congregation's retards elders made me abandon my apprenticeship.. (in this part of the world, the pre-1975 hype was taken to that level.
not being content to prevent young persons attending university, they went one step further and treated with hostility any youngster who would "tie up five years of their lives" by entering into an apprenticeship.

by unstopableravens ini wanted to start this thread two weeks ago,however i have had alot going on with wifey and the elders,that is another thread.
to be honest my mind has been on my family.
i will be able to discuss the book tommorow morning.

Man created God and then "God" created man. That's the right order.
Morals/morality are just a set a rules created by the strong to control the weak (leaders versus led). At a practical level, they work OK for me to create some degree of cooperation and harmony when you live in a community. Maybe that's where the concept of civilization comes from. Morals is a diversion from natural selection. Civilization and morals work well for a while, until it's time for natural selection to continue its inexorable course, which "God" can't do squat to stop.
By the way CA, you can sell me a god, just don't try to sell me the god of the Jews (Bible). That god has all the bad traits of a very flawed human.

i thought i would have a look at my home country's yearbook stats here in the uk (britain).. so here they are for your consideration.
had to go into the loft for some of the older yearbooks, and found some other older publications too.. nothing too remarkable as such here, as far as i can see, apart from:.

Compared with most other denominations JWs are doing pretty well.
How many other denominations are spending 6,000 plus hours to get one soul baptized?

I agree, even though the numbers got worse, they are not representative of reality. Too many in-but-not-in in the congregations, and many new rules skew the numbers to make them look better than they really are.

Quite interesting. or rather depressing, to see how people side with the "faith" method which stagnated human knowledge for almost 2,000 years and still have the chutzpa to attack the scientific method, which in a very short time has given us airplanes, cars, computers, spaceships, knowledge about the universe and the earth, cell phones, life saving drugs, longer lives, GPS, etc, etc, etc, etc. Then, if not science, what do we owe to the Bible? Morals? I doubt it, Asian religions/cultures develop strong moral values without the help of the "Holly Book".

Forum Owner and Member Integrity
by Simon insome people recently raised concerns about security of the site relating to whether forum members could be watchtower plants trying to obtain information about people.
apparently, this was because a previous forum that was setup was either owned by or later handed over to someone who used it to collect personal information about people which was then used to harrass them.
i don't know all the details, i'm just paraphrasing what i've heard and recognize that it's a concern to some people.. i want to first of all put people's minds at rest: i've been running this site for what will be 13 years next month.
